Kimberly Roan, Scholar of UK Based ACES Charity

RSG learned that a UK based organization awarded their first scholarship to San Guillermo Elementary and Morong High graduate Kimberly Roan. She's the daughter of Rolando and Bay Roan from Agas-as. Here's what ACES Charity is saying about her:

Our first ACES Scholar is 16 year old Kimberly. Her determination, intelligence and attitude shone through as she answered all our questions confidently and in perfect English (her second language of course). She is now applying for a place to study nursing at university – this place will be fully funded by ACES. Kimberly is the third of six children with ages between 20 and 12. Her father works as a rice farmer. Her eldest sister is due to complete a degree in Anthropology this year, her eldest brother is currently at college sudying business. Kimberly regularly features in the top few students in her class, and has done so since she started primary education in 1997. She has been singled out at Morong National High School for her abilities in essay writing.

According to the website, Kimberly will regularly post essays on her university journey. Here's her webpage.

Investigate Pasig dumping of Garbage in Taghangin - DENR

Read this report from Bayani Koh:

The DENR, through the Office For Field Operations, wrote a letter dated April 14, 2008 instructed the Regional Director of the Environmental Management Burau, DENR IV-CALABARZON to conduct immediate investigation on the issue of alleged dumping of wastes of Pasig City to the Morong Dumpsite that should have been closed and rehabilitated after the issuance of Authority To Close. The instruction also requires the Regional Director concerned to submit report and recommendation.

Let us hope the DENR will honestly report the true picture/situation of what is going on on the Taghangin Open Dumpsite.

Morong "Tungkor" in the News (Florida,US)

News video here
His sticks are made for walking
Tampa Bay Channel 10, 4/21/08

Largo, Florida - On most days you can find Reynato Aquino in his garage carving out a piece of paradise.

The 73-year-old retiree takes daily walks to keep his body active and fit. He keeps his mind active too.

One day on his walk Aquino noticed branches that had been cut back or fallen from trees on his path. That’s when inspiration struck.

Aquino picked up a few of the branches and took them to his garage. The more he looked at them the more he saw how beautiful there were and his new hobby of whittling was born.

It has given birth to beautiful and unique walking sticks.

He calls his creations "Tungkor," which in his homeland of the Philippines means walking stick. It’s a new hobby that has given him hours of delight.

Aquino says, “It’s so refreshing because the time will pass so quickly. My wife says, 'It’s time for lunch,' and I say, 'Wait, wait, I am right in the middle of something.'”

Aquino says each piece has a story to tell but you have to listen.

Aquino begins by carefully removing the bark and letting the wood dry in his garage. That process can take as long as three months. Putting the branches in the sun would be faster, but it would make the wood very brittle.

After it has dried, Aquino begins bringing out the natural beauty in the branches. Some of the walking sticks have the faces of wild animals like bears or monkeys.

Aquino believes almost everything can be given new life or a second chance. One look around his Largo home and you see what he means. Old coffee cans are planters and he’s turned items like DVD’s, old golf balls and vacuum handles into melodic wind chimes.

He still collects branches during his daily walks, but now he’s also looking up at branches that are still in the trees.

He’s already planning a second life once they fall to the ground or are cut away.

More of Aquino’s work can be seen by going here.

"Call unto me, and I will answer thee,
And show the great and might things

Jeremiah 33:3

HOW GREAT THOU ART

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

May Kubeta ba Kayo

According to a report by tv program "I-Witness", half of Rizal province population don't have access to toilet. Say what?

"50% of Rizal province’s more than one million residents do not have toilets. Sandra goes to Jalajala, Rizal and discovers that until now, locals either go to the river to answer the call of nature, or use the old system of digging their own “dump” site." -Saksi, GMA Pinoy TV

From: Barangay San Guillermo bgy.sanguilmo@yahoo.com
Sent: Tuesday, March 18, 2008 9:46:34 PMSubject:

Open Email from Butch

Kagalang-galang na Konsehal at mga mahal kong tiga M and SG from all over the world:

Kami po ay mga mamamayan din na dapat lang na malaman ang mga tunay na nangyayari kasi I believe po na communication is very important and it must go up and down and even sideways if necessary because without us, there will be no leadership.

You stated po na open kayo sa suggestions kaya gusto kong magtanong concerning the revival of our "Ilog". Ynarez. I do know that you can do it and you will spearhead this project with ease. Many of our kababayans are planning na mag retire sa atin kung maganda ang kapaligiran and security is up to par. Kung mangyayari ito, revenue will come in and it will be a great help to our economy.

The infra structure ng bayan ng Morong I think ay okay na. The old basurahan will once again smell like batang sanggol and all Moronguenians will celebrate because of the positive steps that the leadership has done. I salute all of you for you great effort. May I ask what the leadership has done to motivate investors to do business in Morong?

Because I care, I will conclude by saying.....In order for you to succeed, put enthusiasm first on your list followed by honesty and transparency. Always remember that you will never satisfy everybody but you can the....majority.

I LOVE MY OWN MY NATIVE LAND!

Labis na gumagalang,

butch

UPDATE:
4/8/08 by Zoilo

Statement of Konsehal Alan Garrovillas

From Konsehal Alan Garrovillas

Greetings to all MorongueƱos in all parts of the world especially to all San Guillermonians in the name of public service and commitment.

It was almost a year now since the people of Morong elected us to the Sangguniang Bayan. Since then, as far as I am concerned, I know that we are all doing our part as legislators of our town guided by the trusts given to us by our constituents and the existing laws of our country. I was just wondering why there were false and malicious e-mails coming out trying to ruin not only me, but the whole Sangguniang Bayan to inculde Vice Mayor Emil and Mayor Jojo.

As elected officials of our town, we are trying to govern our town to the best of our effort altogether, hand in hand, in short, kami pong lahat ay nagtutulungan, no matter what party we belong and who the executive is. According to one of the famous personality, " My loyalty to my party ends, when my loyalty to my countryment begins." a saying that guides me to serve my fellow MorogueƱos.

On the issue of Save More Supermarket, are we not happy to shop at a very convenient place? You can ask most of our balikbayans and kababayans if they are happy or not. 90% of our kababayans were employed on the said supermarket. We cannot resist change and development. We need more investor coming to our place, as long as it is not against the law and they comply with all the necessary permits and requirements, they will also bring more income to our town.

On the other hand, the engineered Sanitary Landfill and the old dumpsite, we are all becoming and going on highly technological nowadays, otherwise, you cannot make false information against me /us without using these new communication gadgets. Morong is a town wherein most people are educated, or I might say, the town with the highest literacy rate in the whole Province of Rizal. Let us examine everything else and see what is really right or wrong. Everyone is invited to see all government document with regards to our resolutions and ordinances. We are transparent in everything we do especially for the benefit of our constituents. I challenge everyone to see the old dumpsite, the new landfill, the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) for yourselves. and then after, tell us if it is really or will become harmful/ insafe to our constituents. Most of our balikbayans have seen already and they are all happy to see that those e-mails were all accusations.

Let us not try to be the best, but try to do what is best for our people.

Again, thank you for calling our attention on dumpsite at Binutas matter and Save More issueand we have aired our side, "the truth and nothing but the truth" and make things clear and in order. Should you need additional information and latest update on the questionable issues in our beloved town, MORONG, RIZAL, WE ARE OPEN FOR ALL YOUR SUGGESTION, OPINIONS, SOLUTIONS, REQUEST, etc.

We're Brothers Forever

I told you so

I was just reviewing our previous podcasts and came about episode 24, regarding status of Philippine sports with politicians fronting sports bodies. I told you so...

March 2006, RSG Episode 24:
Pinoy will excel in sports like badminton, boxing, baseball (not basketball). Korea was used as an example: speed skating (height doesn't matter). Cycling in the Philippines.. here comes the politician (Lina brothers in basketball and cycling). Spanish cyclists are small in stature but excellent climbers.
