When Republic Act 9003 or Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 was implemented, the pressure to create a viable, systematic and sustainable solution to the country’s waste disposal problem began to mount. Problem is, only a handful dared or even cared to venture out into this noble undertaking of caring for the environment. This is where the fourth-class municipality of Morong, Rizal, comes in.
For 40 years since 1968, this small but robust often ignored area in Rizal became the object of ridicule particularly because of the stench and smoke, not to mention the lethal gases that continuously emanate from its open dump. Morong desperately needed an environmental face lift fast if ever it still had a glimmer of hope to become a progressive town. Its municipal officials went through so many channels just to find whatever help they could get to acquire a decent waste management facility. But to no avail. It was another exercise in futility and Morong was clearly right smack in the middle behind the wheel. Hope was hastily and sadly fading. Now this is where the IPM Group member Basic Environmental Systems and Technologies Inc. (BEST) enters the picture. After only four meetings between BEST led by IPM Group’s benevolent and steadfast.
IPM Group of Companies Inc. president Isabelita Paredes Mercado and the municipal government administration led by Mayor Joseph “Jojo” Buenaventura through the intervention Rizal Gov. Casimiro Ynares III, the issuance for an authority to close was granted on June 2, 2006. And on the Jan. 28, 2008, the formal closure of the Morong dump finally took place.
“BEST is truly heaven sent. And without the kindness of IPM Group President Isabelita Paredes Mercado, Morong would never have the opportunity to prosper. You are a blessing for the people of Morong” Buenaventura said.
Shortly thereafter on the same day, with the recent issuance of an environmental compliance certificate (ECC), Morong lay witness to another momentous occasion with the historical groundbreaking ceremony involving the immediate construction of an Engineered Sanitary Landfill Facility (MESLF) in compliance with the requirements of RA 9003. With the kindness and generosity of the IPM Group as carried out by its member company BEST, Morong is now poised to become a future powerhouse progressive municipality.
Today, Morong has now become a third-class municipality.

SM Investments income reaches P12B in 2007
SM Investments Corp., the holding firm of mall magnate Henry Sy, said Monday its net income grew 14 percent year in 2007 to P12 billion, boosted by revenues from its retailing business.
Consolidated revenues rose 38 percent to P122.5 billion as retail revenues went up 43 percent to P103.2 billion, fueled by full-year operations of SM Supermarkets and SM Hypermarkets acquired in 2006.
Last year, SM opened two new department stores in Bacolod and Taytay, two new hypermarkets in Muntinlupa and Taytay, and one supermarket in Morong, Rizal.
Rental income, derived mostly from shopping mall operations, climbed 13 percent to P11.1 billion. Revenues from cinema and amusement operations increased by 13 percent to P2.5 billion.
I don't pkng care if Morong is 3rd, 4th, city or what municipality. The SGbayan are the one to blame for all the "riches" or the sad events or downfall of the town. Imagine a year ago the town is numero uno in all newspaper for having been the cultural/education center in Eastern Rizal. Wha'happen'man? Did all the hypes and glories turned into GREED?
and now this - BASURA CENTER? C'mon man, put some senses to your kotikoti - baka walang lamang ang inyong up there, but full naman ang down there pockets.
