Ituloy and Protesta

more Basura from Morong Nightowl:

Malapit na ang deadline ng rehabilitation ng Taghangin Open Dumpsite sa ika-30 ng Mayo, 2008 subalit patuloy pa rin ang pagtatapon ng IPM-BEST ng basura na galing sa Metro Manila. Huwag tayong palinlang sa nakikita nating "development" ng Taghangin Open Dumpsite. Sa kabila nito ay ang walang pakundangang paglabag sa Authority to Close Order ng DENR.

Let's continue our protest!!!

Teresa Town Opposes Morong Landfill

from Philippine Daily Inquirer
May 19, 2008

MANILA, Philippines -- The town of Teresa, Rizal has expressed opposition to the sanitary landfill under construction in Morong, Rizal near the town’s border, saying it undermines Teresa’s solid waste management efforts.

Marlon Pielago, Teresa’s environment and natural officer, expressed fears that the 10-hectare landfill right next to the town would erode the town’s gains in reducing the residents’ wastes.

Pielago warned of dump trucks passing through Teresa’s roads, contributing to air and noise pollution during the landfill’s operation.

“We are concerned about the safety of the residents and the foul odors,” he said.

At just 500 meters from the town, Pielago said the landfill was “too close to Teresa,” which gained accolades for its effective recycling program for its zero-waste goal. Pielago said the landfill would not only pose a health risk to residents but would also undermine the “green” values the town wanted the youngsters to imbibe.

He said Morong should built its landfill far from Teresa.

Happy Fiesta, San Guilmo!

The litturgical feast of San Isidro Labrador is celebrated every 15th of May from various Catholic cities around the world including the small barrio of San Guillermo in Morong, Rizal. San Isidro is the patron saint of the farmers and Madrid where he was born in 1070.

Here's his biography from wikipedia:

He was in the service of the wealthy Madrid landowner Juan de Vargas on a farm in the vicinity of Madrid. Juan de Vargas would later make him bailiff of his entire estate of Lower Caramanca.

Every morning before going to work, Isidore was accustomed to hearing a Mass at one of the churches in Madrid. One day his fellow-laborers complained to their master that Isidore was always late for work in the morning. Upon investigation, so runs the legend, the master found Isidore at prayer while an angel was doing the ploughing for him.

On another occasion, his master saw an angel ploughing on either side of him, so that Isidore's work was equal to that of three of his fellow-labourers. Isidore is also said to have brought back to life his master's deceased daughter, and to have caused a fountain of fresh water to burst from the dry earth in order to quench his master's thirst.

St. Isidore married Maria Torribia, a canonized saint, who is known as Santa MarĂa de la Cabeza in Spain because her head (cabeza in Spanish) is often carried in procession, especially during droughts. Isidore and Maria had one son, who died in his youth. On one occasion their son fell into a deep well and, at the prayers of his parents, the water of the well is said to have risen miraculously to the level of the ground, bringing the child with it, alive and well. Isidore and Maria then vowed continence and lived in separate houses.

Isidore died on May 15, 1130, at his birthplace close to Madrid.

Editorial: Victim of Crime in a God-fearing Country?

RSG: For a complete details of the crime, visit Morong Interactive at www.morongtambayan.freeforums.org , click on the Forum section.

A Filipino sharing the knowledge, expertise, education and experience in helping a foreign country received this treatment in return? Knocked off, beaten and robbed? Will justice be served, like the way their "Koran" dictates - an eye for an eye, etc.?
Is stealing one's personal property will cost assailants their hands being cutoff? C'mon are you kidding me? Their own people was the culprit! I won't be surprised if the result comes out and blamed the victim for going out at night. Is it a "crime" or against the law to get a cup of starbuck?

How safe are our people there? And how safe are our women folks there?

For some people this is a small thing, for us, Morong folks this is a big thing and unacceptable. Arabs are good people. And the bad ones are really the pit!

How secure are the company's contract-workers? Let me rephrase that - how insecure are our OFWs?

Very! But they have to earn a living, and their number one concern is that there is food on the table, kids education, and clothes on their back. Everything else is secondary, yes, even security! We have always placed our lives in the hands of God. Faith builds our courage, and, "bahala na" (whatever happens, happens) keep us going. And, no matter what, it is always, "the family that prays together stays together", even when one is out in a foreign country working hard to provide for the family.

What is the RP's Embassy say on any of these? I have no idea. It will stand on record that one countryman was a victim of "random crime". Random? Those criminals waited for the Morong guy (or any one for that matter) to come out from the building! There was no random there. They (Arabs) will probably just shrug their shoulders and say, "It happened that you Mr. So and So was on the wrong place at the wrong time." Excuuuuuse me?

What are my points here?
(1) Safety! Safety! and Safety should be the responsibility of the company who hires our OFWs.
(2) Rally the OFWs and their families to demand that RP Embassies and Consular offices around the world SHOULD make it a priority to extend immediate help to its citizen who had been victimized.
(3) Earning a living is not a crime. A crime is stealing and causing harm to a person, even, in a country where Allah is supreme, is unforgivable!

A very concerned Filipino,
