Editorial: Victim of Crime in a God-fearing Country?

RSG: For a complete details of the crime, visit Morong Interactive at www.morongtambayan.freeforums.org , click on the Forum section.

A Filipino sharing the knowledge, expertise, education and experience in helping a foreign country received this treatment in return? Knocked off, beaten and robbed? Will justice be served, like the way their "Koran" dictates - an eye for an eye, etc.?
Is stealing one's personal property will cost assailants their hands being cutoff? C'mon are you kidding me? Their own people was the culprit! I won't be surprised if the result comes out and blamed the victim for going out at night. Is it a "crime" or against the law to get a cup of starbuck?

How safe are our people there? And how safe are our women folks there?

For some people this is a small thing, for us, Morong folks this is a big thing and unacceptable. Arabs are good people. And the bad ones are really the pit!

How secure are the company's contract-workers? Let me rephrase that - how insecure are our OFWs?

Very! But they have to earn a living, and their number one concern is that there is food on the table, kids education, and clothes on their back. Everything else is secondary, yes, even security! We have always placed our lives in the hands of God. Faith builds our courage, and, "bahala na" (whatever happens, happens) keep us going. And, no matter what, it is always, "the family that prays together stays together", even when one is out in a foreign country working hard to provide for the family.

What is the RP's Embassy say on any of these? I have no idea. It will stand on record that one countryman was a victim of "random crime". Random? Those criminals waited for the Morong guy (or any one for that matter) to come out from the building! There was no random there. They (Arabs) will probably just shrug their shoulders and say, "It happened that you Mr. So and So was on the wrong place at the wrong time." Excuuuuuse me?

What are my points here?
(1) Safety! Safety! and Safety should be the responsibility of the company who hires our OFWs.
(2) Rally the OFWs and their families to demand that RP Embassies and Consular offices around the world SHOULD make it a priority to extend immediate help to its citizen who had been victimized.
(3) Earning a living is not a crime. A crime is stealing and causing harm to a person, even, in a country where Allah is supreme, is unforgivable!

Nasan kayo wen we nid u? (Saan pa eh di nasa gud time ang mga iyan!)
